Antrim County area has it all!
GOLF - Michigan's best golf courses are just around the corner. Shanty Creek has 5 courses! The Legend, Cedar River, Schuss Mountain, and Hawk's Eye and Summit. Other courses nearby are The Chief, Grand Traverse Resort and Boyne Mountain golf courses are just 30 minutes away and at least 20 courses are within 45 minutes.
SKIING - Shanty Creek offers downhill skiing, cross country, snowboarding and tubing. Or take the short drive to Boyne Mountain. You can cross-country ski right out your door, but if you want to compete, try the White Pine Stampede - a 10, 20 and 50K Nordic ski race. Its usually held in early February.
BOATING - Lake Bellaire public access is 10 minutes away. Torch Lake – selected by National Geographic as one of the world's most beautiful – can be accessed from the public ramp and docks in Alden, just 20 minutes away. (Be sure to check out the ice cream cones in Alden while you are there!) No boat? Rent one in Bellaire at the Riverside Marina!
HIKING, CAMPING, HUNTING, and SNOWMOBILING - Take advantage of over 40,000 acres of public lands some of which is immediately adjacent to Swiss Village East. You can't beat the natural beauty of Grass River Natural Area, Glacial Hills, and the Cedar River Natural Area.
NATURE - Deer, wild turkey, fish, birds, and fox abound. Try hunting for morel mushrooms in the spring (if you can find them)!
FISHING - You just can't beat the rainbow trout found in our very own Cedar River. Or try any of the area lakes.
HEALTH CLUB - Become a member at Shanty Creek and enjoy the marvelous facilities. Go to the office at The Summit to purchase a membership.
FOOD - The Bellaire Bar for burgers. The Corner Bistro offers great small plate options and drinks. Toonies Fish & Steakhouse for casual dining. Papa K's Pizza in Bellaire and Mancelona. M88 Morning Grind for coffee, pastries & more. The Lunch Box for good home cooking! Nearby is The Pelican's Nest at The Chief Golf Course or The Lakeview at Summit Village in Shanty Creek. Then there's always fast food at McDonald's and Subway!
NIGHTLIFE - In Bellaire, Short's Brewery has become a dining and music venue drawing microbrew connoisseurs, foodies and music lovers from throughout the Midwest. It'd be wise to call ahead. The Bee Well Mead & Cider, Mammoth Distilling, and Hello Vino are great spots to go!
