Swiss Village East Property Owners Association

President’s Report

Spring 2007

Dear Property Owners:

Spring has sprung and I hope that all of you had an enjoyable winter.  For those of you who visited the area during the winter, you may have noticed some of the improvements which were made at the ski resort by the new owners.  This included a “Magic Carpet” on the bunny hill, a doubling of snowmaking capabilities, and the addition of a groomer.  Despite the slow start to the winter season due to the weather, the ski season was one of the best in years with respect to the detail and care of the slopes.  Even with Michigan’s economy, the new owners of the resort have made incremental improvements and, based upon information provided by them, will continue to do so over the next few years.

Attached to this letter is the financial report for Swiss Village East for the past year. Once again, we have hired Northern Exposure to clean up the sand left over from the snowplowing in the winter and to cut the grass and generally maintain the sides of the roads.  In addition, we have added split rail fence, wood chips and other improvements to the children’s park.

As many of you are aware, we have been discussing for some time the elimination of the dumpster which was located at the end of Park Lake.  As of April 30, 2007, we no longer have a dumpster.  Unfortunately, the costs of maintaining the dumpster have grown substantially over the past two years.  In addition, we have had constant problems with trash being thrown around the dumpster including  items such as stoves, refrigerators, mattresses, construction materials, and other refuse being placed in or around the dumpster which was meant to provide for the disposal of household trash only.  Finally, we have had consistent problems with individuals using the dumpster who do not own property in Swiss Village East.  As a result, the board determined that the expense and mess created by the dumpster outweighed the benefit that the dumpster otherwise provided.  For those of you who live in Swiss Village East 1 and the southern part of Swiss Village East 2, garbage service can be arranged through Custer Township as the township has garbage service for all township residents.  For the balance of Swiss Village East residents, American Sanitation or North Country Sanitation will provide garbage service based upon the purchase of garbage bags.  These bags can be purchased at Glen’s in Bellaire.  I understand that there may be other locations where they can be purchased.  If you buy a bag, please contact the company in order to find out when pick up occurs.

Although we managed to update the website through last summer and last fall, once again we have run into problems with the website.  We are currently working on this problem.  If it cannot be resolved by the end of June of this year, we will redesign the website to ensure that it is kept current.  In the interim, if you wish to contact me directly, my email address is pwendling@upnorthlaw.com.

As a reminder, lots and homesites are to be kept in a manner as to prevent them from becoming unsightly.  Please help keep Swiss Village East looking good by properly disposing of scrap wood, metal, unused building materials, motor vehicle or machine parts, and household trash.

For those that have questions regarding dues or other matters pertaining to the finances of the association, please contact treasurer Lonnie Petroskey either by email at petrock@torchlake.com or write to Swiss Village East Property Owner’s Association, P.O. Box 793, Bellaire, MI 49615.

I hope all of you have a good summer.  For those who wish to attend our meetings, our next regularly scheduled meeting will be at the law offices of Graham, Elsenheimer, Wendling and Kazim located at 104 E. Forest Home Avenue in the Village of Bellaire on Saturday, July 14th at 10:00 a.m.  Our annual meeting will be held on Saturday, October 6th, 2007 at the Cortina Room at Schuss Mountain at 10:00 a.m.

Sincerely,

Peter R. Wendling, President
